So I love Zara as much as the next gal, but I experience a frequent cycle of lust and dismay with that store: The perfect shift dress - but it has puffed shoulders. A flawless silk blouse - but it has rhinestones on the cuffs. The chicest black trouser - but it has feathers on the ass.  Etc. But despair no more, because Zara’s boring-but-classy cousin has come to town and his name is Massimo Dutti. Basically, this place has everything you ever wanted from Zara but without the “fantasy” details.  And because my life is not a fantasy but an office-based, thirty-something reality, I am in love.  Like most fantasies, items with trend details tend to fade into memory as follies of last season - with Massimo stuff, you have a decent chance at a long-term relationship.  It’s more expensive but the quality and style longevity is worth it. Talking that easy, dressy tomboy style with Vogue + Sperry.

Sidenote: I watch this Janelle Monáe performance whenever I feel intimidated by anything I have to do. IT IS GREATNESS.

I stopped by the Vogue offices the other day to play around with outfits and Sperry Top-sider’s Spring/Summer collection … My favorites amongst the bunch were the shoes that married the heritage of the brand with something new, but without feeling overly trendy or forced into a mash up.  My top pick was this white woven boat shoe (right) which I would wear instead of an oxford (I really look too manish in an oxford) - this shoe comes in a zillion styles including rose gold. On the left is a similarly simple-but-new braided rose gold espadrille wedge. Prices are in the $100 range. Thanks for the shoes + booze* Sperry and Vogue! *I had iced tea though : )
